Basic Photography Lesson – Clean the Camera Always

People who own cameras forget that one of the most important things they have to do is to clean it and maintain it well so it will continue to function properly. Just because the camera is an idiot type does not mean that it does not need dusting, wiping and a change of batteries.

Maintenance of a camera involves taking out old batteries and cleaning out the connections making sure that there is no rust to hamper the connection. Then when the camera is not in use, make sure to remove the batteries and wipe the connections before storing.

Open the back of the camera and blow out the dust that accumulates in there. Don’t use your own breath for particles of saliva can cause moisture and rusting. Use a can of compressed air or a bulb that would gently but drily blow out the dust. Wipe the surface with a special lens cleaner cloth; do not use tissue paper for even if it were still a soft material it can because microscopic scratches and lint may be left behind.

For the surface of the camera, use a damp cloth that is almost dry. Use this to wipe the surface and the casing of the camera. Follow this up with a dry cloth and wipe what the damp cloth touched. This will remove any surface oils and will make sure that no moisture is left.

Now most cameras have crevices which can be tough to clean. Use a toothbrush with a gentle bristle. Avoid using old toothbrushes; use a new one as they are very cheap.

Clean cameras will only give clear pictures and lenses which are free of dust and oils will make the pictures clear as well. Those who complain that they get blurred or dirty images on their pictures should stop blaming the makers of the cameras; instead, they should learn how to clean.
