Those who are just starting out with their wedding photography business need to know some things which could help them get better at their work. However, no professional photographer could also claim that they know everything there is to know about the trade.
Here are just seven ideas which could help someone new in the photography business:
First, you need to ask the bride and the groom if they have something which they both consider to be meaningful for both of them so you could incorporate the image into the wedding album.
Second, you need to have a second photographer with you or even a third one if the budget allows. Having only one photographer tries to take all the pictures could leave a lot of room for mistakes, like missing out on an exceptionally candid moment between the couple.
Three, try not to act like a paparazzi and act as discreetly as possible. The more you blend into the party the better you could take the images for the guests will not realize that their pictures are being taken. You get more ‘normal’ pictures that way.
Fourth, ask the couple for a custom engagement session so you could make a collage of pictures depicting the history of the couple.
Fifth, when it is time to take a group picture don’t do too many delays. This is a major mistake some photographer make when they ask the group to smile and then not take the picture for they still had to focus the aperture. When you are still making preparations, let the group relax. When you are ready, ask them to close their eyes and on the count of three, let them open them and then take the picture.
Sixth, discuss other options other than traditional wedding photos. The couple may just not know that there are different styles to taking pictures.
And last, seventh, talk to the couple before the wedding about how their pictures would appear when it comes to important sections of the wedding. Tell them that when they are exchanging vows they look at each other rather than the officiating priest. Tell them it would look more romantic on film if they make the vows while looking at each other.
